An efficient foothold along Zhongshan Road
This project to connect with the southern Fujian region in Xiamen will take five days. I have encountered many pitfalls in Xiamen hotels before: either it is far away from the industrial park and I have to leave half an hour early for morning meetings, or I have to take detours for meals and business in the surrounding area. The hotel's location completely meets the core needs of business travel, located in the core area of Zhongshan Road. Driving to major industrial parks and exhibition centers on Xiamen Island is within a half-hour commuting circle, so there is no need to spend half a morning stuck on the road during rush hour like staying on Huandao Road before. It's only a 200 meter walk from Zhenhai Road Subway Station. If you want to catch the high-speed train, take Line 1 directly to Xiamen Station, and you can also take the subway directly to Xiamen North Station without having to take a taxi to rush. Downstairs is Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street. If you need a charging cable or a late night snack to catch up late at night, you can easily buy it by taking a turn downstairs without having to wait for half an hour for takeout.
The efficiency of checking in was much faster than I expected. The front desk staff heard that I had a morning meeting the next day and took the initiative to arrange a quiet room on a high floor far away from the elevator entrance. They also reminded me of the elevator's operating hours during the morning rush hour to avoid crowds and save a lot of time. Pushing open the door, you will understand what a knowledgeable business person is: a large solid wood office desk is left by the window, with a desktop height that is just suitable for a laptop. There is also an adjustable angle eye protection desk lamp next to it, and the network cable interface is reserved in advance, so you don't have to squat on the ground to find a socket. I worked here for four consecutive nights to revise the project PPT. The high-speed Wi Fi never dropped during the entire process, and the design files of several hundred Mbps were completed in just a few seconds, without the frustrating situation of other hotel Wi Fi cards causing people to worry. The sound insulation in the room is particularly well done. After closing the window, you can't hear the noise of the pedestrian street at all. Even if you are busy late at night, you can still calm down and focus on your work.
The most surprising thing is that the hotel's facilities are fully adapted to business scenarios. The business center on the first floor can directly print, bind, and scan bidding documents. The contract that I need to change temporarily can be processed in just ten minutes downstairs, without having to search for printing shops under the big sun of Xiamen. The hotel has its own small conference rooms of different specifications. I have arranged a project docking meeting with a client at the last minute, and it can be done directly at the hotel, saving me the trouble of renting conference rooms outside. The breakfast restaurant opens at 6:30, so there's no need to rush to eat cold bread. A bowl of hot Minnan noodle paste paired with freshly made buns, and after finishing, you can go straight to the meeting, which makes you feel much more energetic. Meeting with clients in the evening, various specialty tea restaurants on Zhongshan Road are just a few steps downstairs. There is no need to drive to the commercial district, and after the meeting, you can walk back to the hotel, which is particularly convenient.
In the past few days, the laundry service has been particularly attentive. The night before, I handed over my formal clothes to the front desk, and the next morning, I ironed them neatly and sent them back to my room. I left an important document in the lobby at the last minute, and the front desk called me immediately after discovering it. They even helped me deliver it to the door of my room. I used to think that as long as I could sleep during a business trip, but this time at Xiamen Huaqiao Hotel, I realized that there is no need to expend energy on commuting or worry about details. On this trip to Xiamen, I deliberately avoided the crowded internet famous homestays on the roundabout road and chose the Xiamen Huaqiao Hotel hidden in the core area of Zhongshan Road. I thought that old hotels would only provide a mediocre experience, but unexpectedly, staying for three days became the most reassuring landing point of the entire Xiamen trip.
The location of the hotel is unexpectedly convenient. It's just a 200 meter walk from Zhenhai Road Subway Station, and you don't have to take a detour with your luggage. Just take a turn outside and you'll be at the entrance of Zhongshan Road Pedestrian Street. Next to it is the Ba Shi Seafood Market. After strolling through the arcade old street in the evening, you can walk back slowly and arrive in less than ten minutes, saving you even a taxi. On the first day, as soon as I entered the lobby, the solid retro texture immediately took me back to the golden age of old Xiamen. There were no fancy internet celebrity decorations, and the high ceilinged space was spacious and relaxed. The doorman took the initiative to help me pick up the luggage, with a warm and friendly attitude that didn't make people feel restrained.
I booked a city view room, and the most surprising thing when I opened the door was the view from the window. Looking up, I could see the arcade roof on Zhongshan Road. In the evening, I opened the curtains and the street lights along the pedestrian street spread out into the distance. In the distance, I could faintly see the warm light from Gulangyu Island, blowing the evening breeze with a sea breeze and watching the crowd shuttle. It was much more comfortable than going to a popular observation deck. The room was cleaned spotlessly, and the bedding was clean and fluffy. In the hot July days of Xiamen, the air conditioning cooled down quickly and quietly. After wandering outside for a day, I lay down and soon dissipated my exhaustion.
The most unforgettable thing for me is the taste in the hotel, where the Chinese restaurant downstairs hides authentic Minnan flavors. Get up in the morning and have breakfast. Local specialties such as noodle paste, sand tea noodles, and oyster omelette are readily available, as well as fresh fruits and Western style dishes to choose from. I specially tried the signature Tong'an sealed meat, which melted in my mouth and was paired with the fragrant Minnan radish rice. Before leaving, I also packed a homemade coconut cake from the hotel, and the crispy texture still lingers in my memory. In the evening when you don't want to go out, go to the lobby bar and order a cup of Star fruit juice juice with local characteristics, sit for a while with soothing music, and the impetuosity of the journey suddenly subsides.
The small details during the check-in period are even more heartwarming. On the day of check-in, we planned to go to Gulangyu the next morning. After hearing this, the front desk staff patiently explained to us the nearest ferry terminal route, even clearly stating which time slot was less crowded and where to buy tickets without queuing. The only small incident was when the three of us checked in and found that there were only two sets of toiletries in the room. We made a phone call and within a few minutes, the staff brought three sets with a smile and also gave us two extra bottles of free mineral water.
After staying for three days, I realized that the most touching thing about an old hotel is never the luxurious decoration, but the kind of appropriateness that has been accumulated over time. Xiamen Huaqiao Hotel did not deliberately catch up with the current trend of internet celebrities, but has solidly implemented the details that guests care most about, such as location, hygiene, and service. Next time I come to Xiamen, I will definitely choose this place again, just for the unique, calm and gentle old-fashioned texture along Zhongshan Road.Show more
